Great Review. At a recent talk John Connolly clearly outlined how he grew up as a huge fan of the horror genre, the resulting mix of Stephen King and James Lee Burke he provides is brilliant. The good news is his next novel "The Gates" is horror albeit with a young adult audience in mind

A very thought provoking article. It is interesting to note that great horror writers can also write fine crime novels, and vice versa.

The great James Ellroy said he was a horror writer. Anybody who has read "The Big Nowhere" will tell you some of the written descriptions were closer to Clive Barker or Peter Straub, than Raymond Chandler. Steve King's "Misery" is a marvellous crime novel. Of there is the wonderful "Fallen Angel" which became the basis for "Angel Heart". Joe R Lansdale is one name which springs to mind, when it come to straddling both genres of horror and crime, and Ian Rankin is finally going to issue his own take on the subject with his long awaited graphic novel about John Constantine.
Long may it continue....
